This study was aimed to evaluate the effect of family-centered speech intervention program for receptive
and expressive language competence of children with cochlear implant. Three pairs of family and child
were selected and assigned into this study. This pairs were 3 children with cochlear implant and their
family who were in family-centered program. To evaluate receptive and expressive language competence,
two examination tools(Preschool Receptive-Expressive Language Scale and MacArthur-Bates Communicative
Development Inventories-Korean) were used. Pre-test, intervention test and post-test were used to illustrate
the effects of family-centered speech intervention program.
The results were as follows. First, this family-centered speech intervention program is
effective to develop receptive language abilities of children with cochlear implant. Second, this
family-centered speech intervention program is effective to develop expressive language abilities
of children with cochlear implant. Therefore this study revealed that family-centered speech
intervention program would be effective for speech and language development for children with
cochlear implant.
