The purpose of this study is to apprehend the leisure life and education․welfare desires of
disabled adults according to life-cycle and disability type, and based upon this to seek out
measures of promoting the education․welfare as well as leisure life of disabled adults. For
this study, the raw data of the survey of the disabled conducted in 2014 by the Ministry
of Health and Welfare and the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs was utilized for
analysis to summarize and analyze the statistical data concerning the leisure life desires,
education desires, and welfare desires of disabled adults according to life-cycle and
disability type in order to apprehend their characteristics. The characteristics obtained from
data analysis showed that, first, an analysis of leisure life satisfaction levels revealed that
satisfaction levels regarding leisure life significantly decreased further into old age
regardless of disability type. Also, in regards to the reasons for dissatisfaction in leisure life
for the physically disabled, the early-aged adults chose lack of time as the biggest factor,
the middle-aged chose financial burden, and the old-aged chose deficient health or stamina.
For the mentally disabled, the early-aged adults chose difficulty in communication, the
middle-aged chose financial burden, and the old-aged chose deficient health or stamina as
their reasons. Second, in regards to what their hoped-for lifelong education program is,
50.3% of the early-aged adults, 62.3% of the middle-aged, and 77.4% of the old-aged
answered that they had none, revealing an extremely low perception of lifelong education.
Also, in regards to what kind of support is required in the future for the participation of
lifelong education by disabled adults, the loudest voice of opinion by the physically
disabled was generally that of reinforcing promotion of the programs, and by the mentally
disabled it was that of operating special education courses for the disabled. Third, as a
result of analyzing the welfare desires of disabled adults according to life-cycle and disability type, it could be gathered that the desire for income security and healthcare
security generally overpowered all other welfare desires.
