실체가 관계에 앞선다는 것은 해묵은 철학적 통념이다. 관계는 둘 이상 의 실체 사이에 성립하는, 이를테면 실체에 부가되는 존재의 양상이라는 것이 그 이유다. 그러나 사실상 존재하는 그 무엇도 타자 없이는 존재할 수 없으며, 심지어 가장 근원적인 자기원인적 존재조차도 타자와의 관계를 필요로 한다는 것이 이 글 의 주장이다. 관계가 존재의 구성적 계기이며, 존재하는 모든 것이 사랑에서 비롯 되어 관계 안에 존재하고 있다는 사실을 철학적으로 논증해보려는 시도로서, 글의 내용은 대략 세 줄기로 나뉜다. 첫째, 관계 안에서만 본래적인 방식으로 존재할 수 있는 (인간) 존재의 본성을 드러내기 위한 방편으로, 인간의 외로움에 대한 심리학 적, 존재론적 분석. 둘째, 관계를 구성적 계기로 하는 존재양식의 존재론적 유래와 기원에 대한 해명의 방편으로, 에로스 신화에 대한 형이상학적 해석. 셋째, 인간이 사랑에서 시작된 존재론적 드라마의 완성임을 논증하기 위한 방편으로, 피그말리온 신화에 대한 철학적 해석.
It is an old truism of philosophy that substance is prior to relation. For relation is as it were a modality of being added to substance, which comes about between more than two substances. But it is what this article maintains that in fact no being can exist without others, even the most fundamental self-caused requires relation to others. As an attempt to argue that relation is constitutive moment of being and every being originates from love and exist in relation, the whole content of this article is divided roughly into following tree parts: First, psychological and ontological analysis of human loneliness to show the nature of (human) being to be able to be only in relation. Second, metaphysical interpretation of the myth of Eros to elucidate the ontological origin and derivation of mode of being with relation as its constitutive moment. Third, philosophical interpretation of Pygmalion to argue that human being is the consummation of ontological drama initiated by love
