The purpose of this study is to reveal the college life adaptation process of
student with visual impairment. To this end, focusing on 3 students with visual
impairment, the in-depth interview were conducted. The experiences of participants
were analyzed by systematic procedure of a grounded theory approach. Analysis
revealed 130 core concepts, 46 subcategories, and 24 categories. The result is
below. The core categories were ‘adapting to college life with positive attitude and
external assistance’. In conclusion, students with Visual impairment were found to be
necessary the followings: the programs to strengthen a attitudes such as openness,
activeness, positiveness, challenging, the improvement of the learning environment
by individual approach, and the systematic and ongoing consultation about daily life
and career at the college. This study will give meaningful resources to teachers in
the secondary education filed and researchers related to higher education for
student with visual impairment.
