Objective : The purpose of this reesarch is to compare the significant differences of children whose
main fosterers are grandparents and children whose main fosterers are parents, through the
results of child development test. By doing so, it seeks to examine what influence that
related characteristic factors on development by main fosterers and what the major factors
are.
Methods : This research was conducted by collecting the data of 139 children, who visited the
Occupational Therapy Center of K Hospital in Busan and took the development test from
January 2013 to November 2015.
Results : 1. According to the general characteristics and the results of Bayley Child Development
Test, there were significant correlations in cognition, language, motor, and social emotional
for main fosterers.
2. As a result of the Bayley Child Development Test according to main fosterers, there was
a significant correlation between cognition and language, motor and social emotional, and
language and motor if the main fosterers were parents.
3. According to the results of the Bayley Child Development Test, there was a significant
correlation only between cognition and language if the main fosterers were grandparents.
4. In the average comparison between the groups according to main fosterers, there was a
significant difference only in language and motor.
Conclusion : Overall, the results of this research show that there is a difference of child development
level depending on the form of main fosterers, and it is considered that the influence of
rearing form and various rearing methods on child development level should be researched
in the future.
