This study aims at showing how the Baek Yoo Kyeong story program has an
effect on young children's representational ability and providing the basic data of
effective teaching media in the field of Buddhist education for young children.
For the study, a pre-test(representational ability test), an experimental treatment(with
the Baek Yoo Kyeong story program) and a post-test(representational ability test)
were conducted for twenty 4-year-old and twenty five 5-year-old young children of
T kindergarten in the Y city. After practicing the Baek Yoo Kyeong story
program, the children showed a significant improvement in their representational
ability. This result shows that the Baek Yoo Kyeong story program can be an
effective teaching method in the Buddhist education to improve young children’s
representational ability. And, it also indicates that the Baek Yoo Kyeong can be
used as a single or combined teaching media in terms of cognitive development.
