The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of attachment type on linguistic and graphic
memory. The participants were 42, 6-year-old kindergarten children. The homogeneity of cognitive
function between the secure attachment and insecure groups was confirmed. The secure and insecure
attachment groups were classified by ASCT(Attachment Story Completion Test). Linguistic and graphic
memory were measured by the AVLT-C and CFT-C of the Rey-Kim test. We found a significant positive
correlation among memory variables, delayed verbal recall, delayed verbal recognition, immediate graphic
recall, and delayed graphic recall. Delayed verbal recall and delayed verbal recognition in the secure
attachment group were higher than in insecure attachment group. Moreover, immediate graphic recall and
delayed graphic recall in the secure attachment group were higher than in the insecure attachment group.
These results are significant in that secure attachment has a positive effect not only on linguistic memory,
which is related to the function of the left hemisphere, but also on graphic memory, which is related to
the function of the right hemisphere.
