This study aimed to investigate the balance abilities and visual perceptual abilities of elderly who experience falls. First a cognitive test was conducted on 72 elderly people who were 60 years old or older at a Senior Welfare Center in ‘D’ city to insure that they were mentally fit. Then the elderly test subjects were divided into two groups, ones who experience falls and ones who do not experience falls. A visual perceptual ability test (MVPT-3) and a balance ability test (Berg Balance Test) were conducted on both groups. The group who does not experience falls showed higher results in both visual perceptual abilities and balance abilities, than the group who experiences falls. The Berg balance scale and the MVPT-3 showed statistically significant differences (p<0.01) when comparing the gender, age, balance ability, and visual perceptual ability of those that experience falls with those that do not. A statistically significant and negative correlation was observed between experience with falls and balance abilities and visual perceptual abilities. As the age of the elderly increased so did the number of them who experience falls. Also their balance abilities and visual perceptual abilities decrease, limiting their daily activities and cognitive function.
