최근 ‘마을’에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 마을의 자원을 토대로 한 ‘마을박물관’이 건립․운영되고 있다. 마을박물관은 마을의 역사와 문화, 그리고 마을 주민들의 기억과 흔적을 담아내고 있는 시설 이다. 경남 거창군 남상면에 위치한 임불마을의 임불고품전시관 역시 이러한 마을박물관의 한 사례 로 볼 수 있으며, 임불고품전시관은 설립에서 운영까지 마을 주민들이 주도한 마을박물관으로 마을 의 생활사 자료를 전시하고 있다. 이렇게 주민들이 주도한 마을박물관은 공동체 의식을 제고할 뿐 만 아니라 마을문화 보전 시설로서의 기능을 담당하고, 외부 관람객 유입을 통한 마을 활성화와 같은 효과를 가져 온다. 또한 마을박물관의 지속적인 운영과 활성화를 위해서는 먼저 전시자료뿐만 아니라 마을 생활사 를 조사하여 아카이브를 구축해야 하며, 이미 설립되어 운영 중인 타 지역의 마을박물관의 사례를 벤치마킹하는 것도 중요하다. 하지만 무엇보다 중요한 것은 마을박물관에 대한 주민들의 관심과 애정의 지속이며, 이와 더불어 중앙 정부 및 지자체, 지역의 국․공립박물관, 문화 기획자, 마을 관계자 등으로 구성된 로컬 거버넌스의 구축이 필요하다.

It is also important that the example about other regions' village museum which is already founded and managed will be benchmarked on it. However, the most important thing is an continuous affection and interest for the village museum. In addition, It needs local governance building composed with the central government, local governments, local national museum, cultural planners, and village interested people.
