본고는 고엥까(S.N. Goenka) 선생님의 가르침에 따라 그의 제자 지도 법사들이 가르치는 위 빳사나 명상수련에 따른 심리치유효과를 살펴보고, 안팎으로 안정된 세상을 만들기 위한 sati의 성숙 및 그 사회적 적용에 대해 제안하고자 쓰였다. 명상수련의 치유사례는 필자가 명상지도를 하면서 지켜보았거나, 수련을 통해 치유효과를 체험한 경험자들의 이야기를 바탕으로 구성한 것 이다.
This thesis is written to consider psychological healing effect of Vipassanā meditation taught by S. N. Goenka’s assistant teachers on the guidance of him and to suggest advisable maturation and application of sati to the society for making it more safe. the healing cases that I mentioned in this thesis are based on those that I have been observed conducting meditation courses or stories of people who have experiecned healing effect through practice. In the first chapter, I reflected on PTSD(Post-traumatic Stress Disorder) and it’s symptoms that majority of the public has gone through directly and indirectly in modern society which becomes more complicated and imposing, and studied healing effects and values of fundamental teaching of Buddha. In the second chapter, reviewing the psychological principles for overcoming PTSD, studied four major type of psychotherapies implicating sati which is the core principle of Vipassanā meditation and their applications in dealing with depression and anxiety. In the third chapter, I tried to reflect the varying moments of mental state in the process of meditation based on 10 day course of Goenka Vipassanā and the psychological healing effect through the process in the perspectives of Ānāpāna meditation which is suggested as samatha practice and Vipassanā meditation starting through observing sensation(vedanānuppassanā) and metta bhāvanā developing loving kindness. Vipassanā meditation was not designed to heal certain psychological disorder, but inherited as method of self discipline to achieve the ultimate happiness that is Nibbāna. However it has been observed frequently that depression and anxiety disorder are improved for the better through practice, and therefore I tried to examine those characteristics helpful for psychotherapy in the perspective of Vipassanā meditation. In the last chapter, suggesting advices how to maintain sati in our daily life, recall the awareness on the final aim of practice which goes over psychotherapy. And closed this article suggesting advisable maturation and application of sati to the society for making it more safe.
