This study aimed to examine the effects of communication activities of people aged 65 and above their
depression. To conduct an empirical analysis, communication activities were classified into three types:
face-to-face, group, and media. The sample group of this study was composed of men and women
aged 65 and above from the metropolitan area of Seoul and other provinces. In total, 178 responses
were received. As for methodology, frequency and factor analysis, t-test, correlation analysis, and
regression analysis were employed. The results show that communication of the elderly has a
significant effect on their depression. Especially, face-to-face communication with spouses and
children, use of cell phones or other means of new media, group communication, jobs, and physical
activities were the factors which had significant effects on the elderly’s depression.
