The purpose of this study is to examine some problems of Korean 'foreign language notation' and present a functional solution to the problems. Many errors in various textbooks for elementary, junior, and high schools and portal Google map are involved with the wrong notations. It is helpful in putting place names in Korean, but it still has a lot of problems. I find two problems: first, it is not clear how much we accept in using place names widely used but against formal notation. Second, some native place names are very different from their formal notations. There is a big gap between the two in some cases. Overall, formal foreign language notation is not generally used. Therefore, it is too strict to fit in with the reality. We should make and widely spread place name database. Geographers, name-related enterprise, and the media will contribute and network for this task. Based on this task, journalists and teachers can contact right place names and use them when they are on the job. Anybody can do this without technical knowledge.
