The purpose of this study was to evaluate Engineering Educations
Accreditation System of Korea. This will provide useful implications for
establishing value, direction, and improvement remedy for Engineering
Educations Accreditation System of Korea.
In order to achieve the purpose of this study, major subjects of the
research were set up as follows: First, Meta-Evaluation by developed
Meta-Evaluation Criteria was conducted on Engineering Education
Accreditation Evaluation System on trial and results were analyzed
statistically. Second, problems and implications for the improvement of the
Accreditation Evaluation System of Engineering Education in Korea were
drawn. The research methodology used to study these subjects: literature
review, interviews with experts, Delphi survey (three times), survey, analysis
of narrative opinion and secondary source.
The results and conclusions of this study are summarized as follows:
First, the current Accreditation Evaluation System of Engineering Education
in Korea was not positively assessed in general. Therefore, to improve
quality of Accreditation Evaluation System of Engineering Education,
intensive attention and efforts for improvement is necessary on: ‘external
environment of evaluation’, ‘human resources’, ‘accreditation criteria’, ‘accreditation evaluation effect’, and ‘accreditation evaluation
improvement’. Second, major problems and implications for the
improvement of the Accreditation Evaluation System of Engineering
Education in Korea. Therefore to improve the quality of Accreditation
Evaluation of Engineering Education it is necessary to establish a connection
and cooperative system among stakeholders in the country and to secure
outstanding evaluators and dedicated personnel. Especially for accreditation
criteria, it is critical that there is in depth research and improvement into
contents and structure. In conclusion, for Accreditation Evaluation of
Engineering Education’s system to become meaningful, its utilizability to
society and policy should increase. The Accreditation Evaluation through
continuous self inspection and improvement should secure trust and
authority.
