The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in social ability
obtained by emotional restoration through sandtray therapy and the use of
symbols used in the sand box to determine the recovery process characteristics of
children who have been emotionally and physically abused by their father at
home and to see how they are reflected. For this purpose, a total of 28 sandtray
therapy were performed and the changes were examined as follows. First, the
abused children showed a significant increase in social ability after sandtray
therapy. Second, the objects used in the sandbox of the abused children were
mostly person figures and furniture, and they identified themselves through the
characters. Among the characters, the princess was described as the main
character, which means that the weak princess gains strength or is recovered by
help of surrounding people. In addition, the majority of the households mainly
use table and chair, which is necessary for eating food and is related to the
relationship, it can be seen that the child wants to get energy through the food
and restore the broken family relationship. Second, the characters in the sandbox
were expressed in the form of lying on the floor at the beginning, and many
dynamic expressions appeared as if they were standing up or doing something
while recovering. This showed that the client was empowered and the emotional
recovery was taking place. The furniture was expressed monotonously at the
beginning, but slowly, people and food were put together and were expressed
more abundantly. The results of this study showed that social ability was improved
by restoring the child's depressed self-esteem and healing of the
relationship-related wounds, and the symbols used mainly in the sand box were
figures and furniture, which means they symbolize the whole process.
