The purpose of this study is to examine what educational contents and methods contributed
to the promotion of global citizenship in the global citizen education(:GCE) programs in which
university students participate. To this end, understand the discourses about the social reality
embedded in Korean university students and analyze the actual cases of the GCE programs in
which college students join in. The analysis criteria of the program were divided into ①purpose
and significance, ②procedure and contents, ③roles and activities of university students, and the
conceptual and practical linkages between the results of global citizenship implied by each
program were examined. As a result, all other cases in this study were carried out based on the
purpose of universal goodness and publicness. Learning contents tended to be based on moral
and ethical global citizenship. In terms of operating procedures, selection process, participation
period, and cost were limited to the wide participation of university students. In conclusion, the
above-mentioned out-of-school programs reflect the educational elements on GCE, but there
were actual barriers to participation and access by all Korean university students, and it was
difficult to confirm the post-growth effect or influence of the participating students. The
research implications of this conclusion are as follows. First, we should discuss the global
citizen education method that everyone can learn and the possibility of using the university
field. Second, it is important to understand the motivation and purpose of university students'
participation in such international activities. Third, it is necessary to recognize that most
activities are carried out in developing countries, and it should be considered whether our practice
and direction is meaningful activities for them as a postcolonial viewpoint.
