The purpose of this study was to provide evidence and information in order to prevent adolescent
suicides by proving the effects of maladaptive perfectionism and academic stress on suicidal thoughts and
the mediating role of parental support. The survey included a total of 1,395 students from Seoul, Daejun,
Incheon, Gyeong kido, Choongchungnamdo. By using structural equations, first result proved that the idea
of suicide was higher in teenagers with higher maladaptive perfectionism an d academic stress. Secondly,
the analysis also demonstrated that when teenagers have higher maladaptive perfectionism and academic
stress, they received less parental support. Lastly, teenagers with more parental support seemed to have less
suicidal thoughts. Therefore, this study showed how parental support is the partial mediating role for
suicidal ideation of teenagers with high academic stress and maladaptive perfectionism. In conclusion, this
research can be practically implied and utilized as basic information for developing programs to reduce
suicidal ideation in teenagers.
