This study suggested measures to be used for musical therapy to correct and
improve problems like lack of social interaction, poor communication capacity,
stereotyped behavior etc. shown in autistic child. To do this, methods of musical
therapy fit to characteristics of autistic child were explored and program for musical
therapy of 12 sessions was developed to be specifically applied to autistic child.
The study results are as follows.
First, as autistic child is very sensitive and interested in music, incidence of
stereotyped behavior or problem behavior can be reduced by developing capacity to
control one’s own behavior through musical activity.
Second, by musical activity with therapist and peers, autistic child can build
relationship with others, develop responsibility, and communicate with others. And in
the process of musical activity, they can express themselves by modeling others’
behavior.
Third, as autistic child is afraid of new environment and lives in an isolated
environment of one’s own, musical therapy can stimulate interests and provide
psychological stability by making them experience various musical activities.
Fourth, through musical activity, autistic child can reduce maladjustment behavior
caused by lack of interaction and find an opportunity to develop their potential
capacity.
