There hasn’t been enough research on crafts in general, even though it is one of important pillars of
culture and the arts. In addition, research on crafts education, which will become a significant means of
nurturing talented craftspeople, is focused on fine arts, which partly explains the reason for insufficient
research on crafts. In this regard, seeking changes in crafts education from the perspectives of developing
culture and cultivating creative and talented people is urgent. In this thesis, the social and cultural roles
of masters in connection to the educational environment of crafts education at colleges were discussed,
in order to justify that learning the value of techniques and mindset of masters is necessary.
Through an apprenticeship-style teaching method based on a master’s skilled experiences and
specialized knowledge, masters played the role of a practical assistant and creative mediator who provides
scaffolding to students. In addition, I was able to identify that cultural visits to museums to diversify
aesthetic experiences of learners can enhance creativity in crafts.
In this regards, I would like to suggest the necessity of changing the educational environment to
acknowledge the tangible and intangible values of masters in crafts education at colleges as well as the
need for experience-oriented learning at museums.
