This study is intended to verify whether group art therapy has an effect on the
addicted students’resilience. Subjects of the study are 4-6th graders who live in N-si,
Chungcheongnam-do and utilize mental health center. According to the standard for
selection of subjects, I chose 24 students and randomly assigned each 12 students into an
experimental group and a controlled group. Due to the characteristics of the group, I
divided the experimental group into two groups consisting of 6 students each and
conducted group art therapy program developed by the researcher. The group art
therapy program was practiced for 90 minutes per session 12 times total: twice a week.
In order to verify the research, I used the Young Korean Resilience Quotient (YKRQ-27)
to analyze changes before and after the program quantitatively and to analyze the
participation of group activities quantitatively. Results are as follows: First, group art
therapy was effective in increasing resilience of the students addicted to smartphones.
Secondly, the therapy was also effective in changing language expressions, behaviors and
works of art during their participation in group activities. Therefore, this study proves
that the group art therapy program is an effective approach to students addicted to
smartphones and suggests its applicability in smartphone addiction counseling as well as in
psychological therapy.
