The Korean Police operates security checklists for crime prevention, but those checklists don’t specify
detailed methodology regarding risk assesment and corrective measures. In this context, the research aims to
explore the NYPD’s burglary crime prevention checklists, and thus, derive distinguishable policy
implications for the development of Korean security checklists. Noticeably, the policy implications,
previously not addressed in the existing literature, are drawn as follows: ① creating physical standards,
based on "Risk Homeostasis Theory", which consequently can also address emergency situations such as
fire and building collapse, ② fostering self-awareness towards personal security issues, based on the
concept of "Total Protection".
