This study is a quasi-experimental research using nonequivalent control group non synchronized design
to prove the effect of accidental fall education on knowledge about accidental fall and preventive behaviors
of accidental fall. The subjects of this study were 64 patients who had been hospitalized in orthopedic
wards in one university hospital in Seoul city, and the data was collected by structured survey between
December1st, 2013 January 31st, 2014. According to the research, both groups, the experimental group
which had fall education with Tablet PCs and the control group which had fall education with printed
document, show the better understanding of knowledge about fall and preventive behaviors of fall (t=-3.66,
p= .001)(t=-3.08, p< .001)((t=-4.61, p< .001)(t=-6.62, p< .001). However, those group did not have mech
difference in the effects(F=0.77, p= .466)(F=0.14, p= .873). There, of the education is provided to patients
with multimedia such as Tablet PCs, it will improve the weakness of the oral education or printed matter
by increasing the understanding and remembering of information. Also, since the education provider does
net need to be with the patients, the time consumption of nursing resources will be reduced and the
efficiency of the education will be increased. Because nurses do not need to spatially participate in patient
education, it will secure time of direct nursing care and increase the efficiency of nursing works. the
instructional method will also have consistency. Therefore, it is necessary to develop media for nursing
education to establish fall education for inpatients using multimedia.
