In this paper, Anse Bundren in Faulkner's As I lay Dying will be focused and examined in the concept of a comic hero. He was regarded as a helpless and dependent father and husband before his wife Addie's death. He was even called a "villain" by many critics, because he fulfilled his desire using his wife's death and his children's sacrifice. To fulfil Addie's dying wish, this family suffers 'fire and water' and keeps the journey carrying Addie's decaying and corrupted ‘body' in the boiling sun. Even though the neighbors consider the journey absurd and outrageous, each of the Bundrens takes advantages of this funeral voyage to get something for himself or herself. Among them, Anse is the hero who leads the journey and gets the most from it. He gets not only new teeth but also a new wife. In spite of his selfish and mean actions, he succeeds in reorganizing his family again through this journey by burying his wife in Jefferson as she wished and regaining his status as a father who decides and orders in family matters. Faulkner shows his vision that endurance is the most important value in life and in that sense, Anse Bundren is a comic hero, who leads the foolish and absurd family to a new world.
