본 연구에서는 국제이해교육과 유사개념인 국제교육과 글로벌교육, 그리 고 관련 개념인 글로벌시민교육, 문화다양성교육, 인권과 평화교육, 그리고 지속가능발전교육과의 관련성을 분석하였다. 이 개념들은 국제이해교육과 중첩적으로 그 내용과 지향성을 나누고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 국제이해교 육은 총론적 입장을 보이고 있는 반면, 유사개념과 관련 개념들은 국제이해 교육을 각론에서 수행하는 입장을 지니고 있다. 국제이해교육의 유사개념들 은 시대적 상황에서 출현하고, 관련개념들은 시대적 요청에 따라서 그 강조 점을 달리하고 있다. 하지만 국제이해교육과 유사개념과 관련 개념들이 어 떤 측면을 강조할지라도 국가간의 입장이 중시되고 있음을 알 필요가 있다. 특히, 21세기 글로벌 환경에서 시민사회의 주도력과 영향력이 강화되면서 국가 중심의 국제관계에서 벗어나 국제관계의 주체가 다변화하고 있다. 이 러한 시대적 상황변화에 따라 국제이해교육은 국제이해교육 개념의 통합적 인 이해를 바탕으로 한 글로벌 사회와 지역간의 연계, 학교와 지역사회와의 연계 속에서의 교육적 실천을 요구하고 있다. 그래서 21세기의 국제이해교 육은 glocalism의 입장을 가지고서 글로벌 쟁점의 해결과 글로벌 협력을 강 조할 필요가 있다. 더 나아가 국제이해교육은 글로벌 시민으로서 책무성을 바탕으로 인류의 보편적 가치의 실현과 불평등 해소에 기여하고, 학교교육 을 넘어 평생교육으로서 국제이해교육을 준비할 필요가 있다.
In this study we reviewed similar concepts(international education and global education) and the related concepts(cultural diversity education, global citizenship education(GCED)), human rights and peace education, and education for sustainable development(ESD) with education for international understanding(EIU). These concepts share and overlap the contents and intentionality with EIU. And while EIU has the general position for the related and similar concepts, these concepts function the particular for EIU. Similar concepts were appeared according to historical situations and the related concepts have different points for the needs of times. But although the related concepts emphasize some aspects for EIU, nowaday viewpoints and stances of nations are taken seriously. Especially in global environment of the 21st century agencies of international relationship is diversifying beyond nation-centered international relationship according to reinforcing power and effectiveness of civil society. To meet the change of historical situations, EIU has to emphasize the linkages of global society and local, and school and regional community, based on integrative understanding about EIU concept. Therefore EIU has to have a position of glocalism, and emphasize the solving of global issues and global partnership. And EIU has to contribute the realization of universal values and the solution of inequality, and reinforce identity as global citizens. Finally EIU has to prepare EIU pedagogy as lifelong education beyond schooling.
