This study was conducted to analyze subject matter related student career before and after the implement
of free-semester system in middle schools. Theses subject to study were 27 theses associated with subject
matter related student career of middle schools that were published in the past 5 years between 2012 and
2016 in domestic scientific journals and master doctorate dissertations. Frequency and percentage was used
to analyze the subject of study, career related subjects, method of study, and subject of research in terms
of year. The results of before and after the implements of free-semester system in middle schools were as
follows: First, based on the year 2014, the importance of subject of study shifted from 2nd and 3rd year
students to 1st year middle school students. In addition, based on the year 2013, the importance of career
related subjects shifted from technology and home economics to arts. Furthermore, based on the year 2013,
method of study changed from pre-study and post-study of experimental and control group to a single
group. Second, subject of research showed up in the order of career maturity, development of career
programs, and career perception. There fore, much effort is needed for the development and application of
career programs to increase career maturity following the increasing recognition of career education that
perked up post implement to free-semester system in middle schools. Moreover, continuous concern and
study is vital for the career education to be carried on to upper grades since career education may lean too
much towards 1st graders following the implement of free-semester system.
