Industrial complexes have served as a cradle and crucial accelerator for urban development in Korea;
however, changes in industrial structure and social environments have furnished an opportunity to seek
change in the characteristics of traditional industrial complexes. Consequently, the study aims to plan a
design pattern for application in diverse patterns in consideration of architecture, complex planning, and
urban design, and also to propose a strategic plan in terms of planning aspects so that the design pattern
may ultimately attract the promotion of the complex through the planning. In order to proceed with this
research, the study looked into the meaning involving the characteristics of an industrial complex from a
theoretical viewpoint, and it considered the meaning, development pattern, and characteristics of industrial
complexes in Korea and overseas. And Through the suggestion to change the plan to use land in Magok
district, this paper suggested the necessity of flexibly applying design strategies in industrial complex,
especially the necessity to promote streets through securing diversity in size and shape of the lot and
blocks and complexation of lower-floor plans, and provided implications such as ways to characterize
