Kyoto Forum is a private academic society that has held debates
from around the world for more than 20 years since its formation
in 1989. This Institute discussed very diverse theme. thought,
society, politics, economics, education, science, technology,
environment, future generations, religion, literature, art, women,
and persons.
President Ph.D. Kim Tae-chang and 2,000 other scholars and
experts from each field will gather together for a basic discussion
on a topic for three days. The contents were published in "Public
Philosophy Series" 20 volumes at the Tokyo University Press, and
it is widely publicized.
Kyoto Forum also studied not only the public philosophy of the
West but also public, private and public ideas in China, Japan, and
Islam. Especially since the late 2000s, we have focused on Korean
publicness.
We based on the achievements of the Kyoto Forum, at first, look
at ideas of public and private of the Western and the Eastern
(China, Japan, and Islam). Next, we identify "Doing public-common
philosophy(공공하는 철학)" that it is reached by Kyoto Forum. it’s
different from Western public philosophy. Finally, I think about
Korean publicness and its possibility. In particular we examine "the
HAN(한)" philosophy which is the basis of traditional publicness
and new thought of the new religion's it.
