본 연구는 2011년 8월부터 2011년 9월까지 임상치과위생사 678명을 대상으로 하여 치과위생사의 직무수행능력을 4개 영역의 총 44문항으로 구성하여 각 영역별 직무수행률을 알아본 결과, 구강보건 교육 영역의 수행률은‘보조 구강관리용품 종류를 알고 사용법을 교육한다’가 가장 높았고, 예방치과처 치 영역에서는‘환자 특성에 따른 스케일링 업무(초음파, 수기구, 치면연마, 기구연마)를 수행한다’, 치 과진료협조 영역에서는‘철저한 기구멸균 및 소독, 소독물품관리를 통해 진료실내 감염방지 업무를 수 행한다’, 경영관리지원 영역에서는‘적출물 및 폐기물 상태를 확인하고 정해진 원칙을 준수하여 처리한 다’가 높은 수행률을 보였다. 일반적 특성에 따른 직무수행능력은 연령이 많을수록, 미혼보다 기혼이, 학사이상으로 학력이 높을수록, 종교가 있는 사람이 직무수행능력이 높았다. 근무관련 특성에 따른 직무수행능력은 이직경험이 있는 사람이, 치과위생사로서 총 근무경력과 현재 직장에서의 근무경력이 많을수록, 팀장이나 실장으로 직위가 높을수록, 연봉이 많을수록, 근무평점제도가 있는 곳이 직무수행 능력이 높았다.
