This research aims to identify foreign workers’ perception of the usefulness of biligual ability on their
daily life and work life in Korea, and search for a point of contact with foreign workers’ expectation to
Korean society and Korean people’s acceptance of foreign workers. For this purpose, this research selected
10 foreign workers as research participants and analyzed data collected by in-depth interviews with them.
According to the results of this research, foreign workers have learned Korean language through diverse
path, and the difference of level were large. Foreign workers commonly consider Korean language to be
the appropriate language to them because they are practically working in Korea. Foreign workers recognized
that Korean ability would be a factor that decreased the disadvantage against them in the workplace but it
was not a mean to guarantee advantage toward them. And they have been aware that biligual ability can
be a mean of providing more opportunities for social prestige and economic gain of the child generation
