There are not many studies focusing on Inminban(or a kind of lower administrative organization in North Korea) among the studies on North Korea. Even if there are some, they are limited to the partial studies on Inminban. In addition, though there are some studies on Inminban from the perspective of the system, structure, law or regulation, there are less studies which focused on such as the organization of Inminban, and the actors including leader and member of Inminban. Even the partial studies on Inminban put priority on its social functions only such as control and monitoring of the residents in North Korea. The Inminban was born after the Korea's liberation from the Japanese imperialism and the establishment of North Korean government. As an organization having full allegiance to the North Korean government, Inminban has played its role and functioned as the lowest administrative organization in North Korea. But since the mid-1990s, the economic downturn in North Korean had led people to less attention to the activities led by Inminban and has changed the organization, role and function of Inminban. As such, the study on the Inminban which are embedded in the North Korean society has implications that if the analysis is done on the organization, role and function of Inminban from the perspective of the actors such as leader and members of Inminban, it would help us to fully understand the Inminban, which is the microcosm of North Korean society, and futhermore take a look at true North Korea.
