This study explored the meaning of process for enhancing intercultural competence of graduate students
who engaged in multicultural studies and activities. Considering the fact that learning context and learning
culture which they are placed have influence on this process, the purpose of this study is to investigate
how the graduate students develop their intercultural competency and make a meaning through learning
experiences in this context. To grasp the subjective meaning in this process, we conducted a qualitative
methodology. Participants for in-depth interviews consisted of 11 graduate students who engaged in
multicultural studies and activities in Korea. In-depth interviews were conducted within a month, beginning
in November 2016 and were transcribed and analyzed with following three results. First, participants have
developed critical awareness on stigma effect of related terms. Second, they have enhanced horizontal
communication competence with people from diverse background. Third, graduate students have extended
their knowledge about different culture to practice in real life.
