The purpose of this study was to clarify the nature of the support extended to persons with handicaps and the cause of its failure. Moreover, the education that is required for the development of this assistance was considered. In this study, citizens answered a questionnaire-based investigation. The results are as follows : 1) People made several mistakes while extending support to wheelchair users and persons with visually impaired. 2) There were numerous instances when the support extended to handicaps might have injured the persons or could have been a cause of displeasure and unease. 3) There ware cases in which citizens responded negatively to the support because they lacked information regarding handicaps. They then avoided the next support session Educating people regarding the support of handicaps is a necessity. Education on handicap support is included in the education imparted on understanding handicaps. It is. necessary to combine the experience gained from simulations of handicaps with that from simulations of supports extended to these handicaps in order to educate people about handicap support.
