In thís study, as the fírst step to explore how to simulate walkíng without vísíon to achieve the desired quality of the public’s perception of blind people, we aim to examine the effect of different simulations at different qualities (encompassing experiences on simulations of walking with functionally impaired vision and the sufferings of blind people in terms of social interaction with others) on the perception of those who had an experience on the simulation. During the period between August 2004 and October 2004, we conducted two different patterns of walking simulations without vision for two different groups in order to measure levels of their perception of blind people before and after they experience vision impair. Pattern 1 consisted of 15 subjects, and Pattern 2 consisted of 18 college students . We measured different levels of perception of subjects using TOKUDA ’s SD method (1988) which is a standardized method for statistical analysis. The 4 pairs of adjectives for statistical analysis include ‘Pleasant - Painful", “ Early - Late’, “ Working Hard - Lazy", and “ Comfortable - In Suffering". To explore the average difference of all the scores on tests, we conducted ANCOVA with 2 tests (pre and post tests) for the two groups (Pattern 1 and Pattern 2) .There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups. However, there was a signifícant difference between the two groups in the reflection on the perceptions of society and people around towards blind and vision impaired people after they experienced the simulation. In particular, the group to which people spoke could experience how blind people would feel about the inconveniences of being blind and the way people around treat them as a ‘disabled person' .
