Education and the arts are areas of historical interest, intense discussion and extensive investigation; widely documented by individuals, practitioners, academics and experts alike. The aim of this presentation is not to provide an academic analysis of or elaborate on either of these fields. Rather, it is to introduce and describe an Australian-based initiative which reinforces education while providing children with opportunities to participate in arts-based programs. This helps them acquire information, perspectives and values (competencies) needed for global citizenship. The initiative is based on the belief that only by fostering relevant knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes today can there be confident individuals contributing to, fully participating in and benefiting from a global society tomorrow.
