This study analyzed qualitatively the actual condition of children's art activity to conduct by teachers in
early childhood education and the contents of the needs of early childhood teachers on how to use visual
culture appropriately in early childhood art education. The purposes of this study were to observe the
characteristics and limitations of art activities that work being done in the field and to obtain implications
for the art education of children using visual culture. For this study, seven teachers who work in
kindergartens participated in the study, and collected and analyzed the data through group interviews,
in-depth interviews, discussions with other teachers, and teacher's journal. The results of this study were as
follows: First, early childhood teachers placed educational value on art activities and were organizing and
managing that as an important in daily life. Second, while visual mediums such as photos and
advertisements were being adopted and used for art activities with young children, but there were
insufficient amounts of an understanding of visual culture, information regarding the diversity of mediums, and appropriate teaching and learning methods. Third, while young children were experiencing the visual
culture as a part of their daily lives, but in order to properly understand and embrace it, teachers are
required to education it.
