연구자는 뚜렛 증후군 학생을 지도하는 초등학교 담임교사의 경험을 탐구하고자 하였다. 이를 위한 연구 방법으로 자문화기술지(autoethnography) 방법을 사용하였으며 탐구 결과는 다 음과 같다. 첫째, 뚜렛 증후군을 보이는 학생은 학교생활 중 스스로 통제하지 못하는 자신의 음성 틱과 운동 틱으로 인하여 불안과 긴장 속에 학교생활을 해야 했다. 불안과 긴장으로 인한 예민함은 공격적인 언행을 불러일으켰으며, 공격적인 언행은 원만한 친구 관계를 형성 하지 못하도록 했다. 그 결과 뚜렛 증후군 학생은 외로이 학교생활을 해야 했다. 둘째, 교사 는 뚜렛 증후군 학생이 있는 학급에 대한 전문적 지식이 부족하여 학급 학생들과 갈등을 겪 어야 했으며, 뚜렛 증후군 학생처럼 특별한 요구를 필요로 하는 학생을 지도할 때 교사는 교육의 현실과 이상, 보람과 후회, 차별과 배려, 수용과 비판의 경계에서 어렵고도 힘든 역 동적 삶을 살아야 했다.
The purpose of this study was to do research on difficulties of a teacher who was in charge of a student with Tourette’s disorder by using autoethnography method. The results of this study are summarized as follows: First, the student with Tourette’s disorder had done motor tics and vocal tics during school hours. The tics made the student with Tourette’s disorder anxious and depressive. The anxiety and depression caused aggressive speech and behaviors to classmates. As a result, the classmates began to keep away from the student with Tourette’s disorder. Second, the teacher who was in charge of the student with Tourette’s disorder didn’t have an expert knowledge about students with Tourette’s disorder. That made a lot of conflicts between the teacher and the student. When being in charge of students with special needs such as students with Tourette’s disorder, students with ADHD, gifted students, and so on, teachers have to consider what is the best interventions for students with disabilities or disorders. Teachers always should think over the difference between ideals and reality, acceptance and criticism, and discrimination and consideration.
