GNH는 그 근원을 불교 이념에 두고 개인의 성장을 포함한 공동체의 행 복 증진을 지향한다. GNH 교육은 이러한 이념에 근거한 학교 교육 프로그램이면 서 개선 계획으로서 그 가치와 실천적 내용을 포괄하고 있다. 부탄의 GNH와 그 교육은 국가의 발전과 삶의 목적을 경제 성장과 물질적 풍요보다 행복과 삶의 질 에 둘 수 있다는 점을 실질적으로 제시하고 보여줌으로써 그동안 일방적인 방향으 로 전개되던 우리의 인식과 태도에 대한 성찰을 가져온다. 이러한 점에서 부탄의 사례는 개인의 삶과 국가의 정책, 그리고 학교 교육에 대해 흥미로운 접근법을 제 공하고 있다.
GNH is based on the Buddhist thought and seeks to promote the happiness of the community including the growth of individuals. GNH education is a school education program based on this ideology and includes its value and practice as an improvement plan. Bhutan's GNH and its education show us that the national development and the purpose of life should be based on the happiness and quality of life rather than the economic growth and material abundance. It gives us a chance to reflect on our recognition and attitude. In this point, the case in Bhutan provides an interesting approach to individual life, national policy, and school education.
