The objective of this study was to apply picturebook reading activities with grandparents volunteer
in child care center to toddlers and then examine its effect on toddlers' development of emotional
intelligence. For this, study questions were established as follows: 'What is the effect of picturebook
reading programs with grandparents volunteer in child care center to toddlers' emotional intelligence?'
Study findings are as follows: Picturebook reading activities with grandparents had positive effects on
toddlers' emotional intelligence on the whole?' In detail, among the six sub-variables of emotional
intelligence, picturebook reading activities with grandparents had significant positive effects on such
five sub-variables of emotional intelligence as 'awareness and expression of self-emotion', 'use of
self-emotion', 'awareness and consideration of other's emotion', 'relationship with teachers' and
'relationship with peers', whereas it had no significant effects on 'emotional control and impulse
suppression.' In conclusion, this study seems to be meaningful in that it verified the fact that
picturebook reading activities with grandparents volunteer in child care center have positive effects on
toddlers' emotional intelligence and are a very useful method of teaching and learning in the increase
of toddlers' emotional intelligence.
