Purpose: Problem behaviors are one of the most important components which should be addressed in the special
education system. Moreover, a student emitting problem behaviors is more likely to be arranged into more
restrictive environment. Method: Positive behavior support (PBS) is a comprehensive application model of the
behavioral science which uses educational and systems change methods to minimize problem behavior, to improve
students academic achievement, and to enhance quality of life. Although the elements of PBS can be found in a
considerable number of PBS-related research articles published in South Korea, more strategic PBS application
model needs to be developed for special education schools in South Korea. Thus, the main purposes of this
study were (a) to conceptualize the PBS application model which would fit into the Korean special education
school system and (b) to provide practical examples which would be used by the practitioners of special
education schools. Result: In order to address this purpose, the researchers established a practical PBS model
based on the core literatures and provided specific references and materials which could be used by the
practitioners. Conclusion: To address these purposes, this conceptual study consists of 5 core individualized PBS
model components
