본 연구에서는 현재 우리나라 4년제 대학의 영어 교양 교육이 최근 교양 교육에서의 요구를 어떻 게 반영하고 있는지에 대하여 알아보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해서 대학알리미 (academyinfo.go.kr)의 2017년도 4년제 대학 중 서울에 있는 20개 대학의 영어 교양교육과정을 무작위 선정하여 대학 홈페이지와 대학 관계자 인터뷰 등을 통하여 교양교육 전담기구 유무, 영어과목이 포 함된 영역, 영어 과목명, 이러닝 또는 블랜디드 러닝 과목의 유무, 영어관련 융복합 과목 유무 등을 조사하고 분석하였다. 조사결과, 대부분의 대학에 교양 대학이나 별도의 교양 전담 기구가 있고 과목 명도 다양해지고 있으며, 최근 교양 교육에서의 요구도 조금씩 반영하고 있어 교양 영어 교육이 많이 발전했음을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 아직도 최근의 교양교육에서의 요구를 반영하고 있는 과목들이 많 지는 않으며 특히 이러닝이나 블렌디드러닝 또는 영어 관련 융복합 과목이 매우 부족하므로 이에 대 한 대책 마련이 필요하다.
The purpose of this study is to investigate how the English education of 4 year universities in Korea reflects the needs of liberal arts requirements during the recent years. For this purpose, twenty universities in Seoul were selected randomly from the four-year universities found the 2017 College Information website(www.academyinfo.go.kr). Through the university homepage and interviews with university officials, the presence of e-learning or blended learning subjects, and the presence of English-related convergence courses amd so on were analyzed. As a result, most universities have a liberal arts college or a separate liberal arts organization, and have had increased the diversification of academic subjects for liberal arts. However, there aren't enough courses that reflect the needs of recent liberal arts education. Especially, e-learning, blended learning, or English-related convergence courses integrated into classrooms were lacking within the colleges.
