이 논문은 영어문법 항목 중에서 어휘의 개수는 적지만 한국인 영어학습자들이 학습하는데 어려움 을 겪고 있는 관사의 용법에 대해 설명하고 있다. 먼저 전통 문법 학자들이 명사의 속성을 어떻게 이 해하고 분류했는지 살펴 본 후, 그 명사들에 따라 관사가 어떻게 결합되었는지 제시할 것이다. 다음 으로 관사의 기능을 설명하기 위해서 가산명사와 불가산명사, 단수와 복수의 구분, 수식에 의한 관사 의 사용여부에 관한 다양한 개념들이 제시될 것이다. 관사의 개념 자체가 없는 한국인 영어학습자들 이 관사를 정확하게 이해하기 위해서는 관사를 하나의 단일요소만으로 파악해서는 안 된다. 관사와 결합하는 명사의 속성을 이해하고 그 속성이 변할 수도 있음을 이해한다면 명사에 따라서 관사의 유 형이 결정된다는 것을 알 수 있을 것이다. 관사의 용법을 제대로 이해한 후에는 관사의 유형과 유무 에 따라 발생하는 문맥의 차이를 인식할 수 있을 것이고 더 이상 관사를 외워야할 대상으로만 보는 것이 아니라 이해할 수 있는 대상으로 생각하게 될 것이다.
This paper focuses on the use of English articles in which the number of vocabularies is small, but Korean learners are having difficulty studying. Also, after studying how traditional grammarians understood the attributes of nouns and how nouns are classified, theses English articles are presented after being combined with the nouns which were assorted. Various concepts of English articles are presented to explain the function of English articles, such as countable and uncountable nouns, singular and plural nouns and whether the article is used by the modification. English articles cannot be understood clearly if explained through a single element, therefore one must comprehend that the types of articles are defined according to the properties of nouns, in regard to the attributes and variability of those nouns. In this paper, the various uses of English articles are presented for the Korean learners to use articles properly after they grasp the function of English articles.
