To Akbar ruled India for fifty years from 1556 to 1605, And he is famous for his religious tolerance
to the Hindus. With the background fo Central Asia, they were minority in religion and ethnicity. But they
conquered the India sub-continent and extended territory through marriage alliances with them. They also
made a policy of various religious tolerance for them and wanted to appeal to them. It can not be denied
here that the political situation of the time and above all Akbar's individual tendencies have influenced on
those policies. This was equally true for the Portuguese missionaries who had been advancing Christian missions in India at the time. Moving a step further, Akbar even filled his intellectual curiosity by inviting
those Jesuit Fathers to his own courts three time. This tolerance has been continued till Jehangir for a
considerable period of time. But the changed political situation prevented further support for them, but their
presence over decades has had a profound impact on the entire Mughal society. In this paper, we have
examined the perception of the Mughal emperors, especially Akbar and Jehangir on Christianity. And I
have researched about some influences of the European Christian paintings on Mughal miniatures.
