This study was aimed to reduce turnover intention and to improve longterm
service quality by confirming the influence of job stress on turnover
intention and verifying moderating effects of the social support between job
stress and turnover intention in caregivers working for elderly nursing homes.
A survey was conducted among 250 caregivers working for elderly nursing
homes in Gyeongbuk Province, Korea. Finally, 200 questionnaires were distributed
for this study. The SPSS 18.0 statistical package was used. To identify the
demographic characteristics of the survey respondents, basic frequency analysis
was conducted. To verify the moderating effects of social support on the
moderating effects between job stress and turnover intention, regression
analysis was performed.
Analysis of the moderating effects among job stress, turnover intention,
and social support revealed that social support plays a moderating role between
job stress and turnover intention.
Based on these results, schemes to reduce turnover intention can be proposed.
That is to share all the difficulties of tasks through mentoring from supervisors,
as supervisor support has a positive influence on increasing job satisfaction.
It is also important to create a friendly and supportive atmosphere between
supervisors and employees. In addition, it is necessary to relieve job stress
and to lower turnover intention, which can be achieved by mutual support
through higher understanding among peers and by close ties through employees
group programs. At the national level, an emphasis should be put on the
promotion of caregivers as a vocation and on the vocational importance. This
may then raise the vocational understanding and sympathy of caregivers as
a family member.
