Kant emphasized the establishment of justice in terms of the rule of law in order to eradicate the absurd violence created by the politics of tolerance in the pre-era and to realize human freedom and dignity. His rule of law was based on deontology and led to retribution. So even to fulfill justice he postulated to the next world and pursued the god of justice. It is not easy for the virtue of forgiveness to take its place in pursuit of justice based on this strong deontology and retribution theory. Of course, he did not ignore forgiveness. Although he does not focus on forgiveness as a central theme, he sees man as a person who needs forgiveness. He argues that man should overcome his sin by means of repentance and punishment, not hatred or revenge. For him, forgiveness also comes to the duty of virtue that man should practice. Nevertheless forgiveness can not take precedence over justice. When the demands of justice are not met, forgiveness has no value. For him, forgiveness plays an auxiliary role of justice. This position gives us fairness in our lives, but it is not enough to provide solidarity. Furthermore, in a society where the systemic world overwhelms the world of life and produces isolation and depression as it is today, this position is not easy to fulfill its role. In order to go beyond this life of isolation and depression, we need to find a way for forgiveness to play a more active role. However, in order for this to be possible, the transcendental community needs to be in harmony with the story-community communicating based on each other’s experience and understanding.
