This study reinterpreted the meaning and value of labor for severely disabled people through
the life of Mr. J who has led the‘○○ Welfare Foundation' for 34 years after becoming
a 1st degree disabled person by accident. The narrative-biographical interviews analysis
approach of Gabriele Rosenthal was used to analyze this study. The life-history analysis of
the J was consisted of four stages. In the first stage, through continual analysis of historical
data on life, objective data were analyzed chronologically. In the second stage, through the
text analysis and subject area analysis, we analyzed the origins of life history stories from
the present point of view. The third stage, the meaning, structure and temporal forms of
specific past experiences were analyzed by reconstructing and continually analyzing the history
of an experienced life. In the final stage, we analyzed the difference between the past and
present perspectives by comparing the narrative history with the experienced life history.
As a result of the research, it was found that there are 5 stages of life: the childhood (the
glory days as a judo player)→ the trial period(accident and rehabilitation)→ the beginning
period(living with people with physical disabilities)→ the turbulent period(1030 movement:
there is no life without work.)→ the growth period(building the happy lifelong workplace
factory for people with severe physical disabilities). The driving force of this life was revealed
as "Judo and Passion" and "Faith and Hope". As a result of the research, J's life was an
'powerful activist' who tried to lead his life through his work, not as sympathy or beneficiary.
In conclusion, this study suggests implications for understanding the reality of life and
employment, the meaning and value of 'work' and the better aspect of employment welfare
for the severely disabled.
