Counseling is one of the universal forms of life, which is not limited to the activities in the
counseling center, should be investigated from its own perspective, just like education is.
Notwithstanding, both education and counseling are used interchangeably in a confused manner
theoretically as well as practically. This paper tried to compare Chang Sang-Ho’s endogenous theory
of education and Rogers’ person-centered counseling theory, focusing on the structure of education
and that of counseling, The criteria for comparison were drawn from the characteristics of
structuralism, such as wholeness and, self-regulation and endogenous features, and anti-humanism, to
show structural differences between the two. It was uncovered that education and counseling are
two different spheres of human life in terms of the assumptions on human being, the goals of
activity, the characteristics of problems intermediated, characteristics of the participants, and
principles of the activity. In this case, one may have an effect on the other as an important
environment, vice versa. Finally, the terms of ‘educational counseling’ and ‘counseling education’
were critically reviewed by analyzing the meanings of ‘education’ and ‘counseling’ in there.
