This study was performed as a preliminary study to analyze the effect of parenting
attitudes on the career decision-making type of middle school students. Analyzing the
medicating effect of self-efficacy to develop a program that can be jointly implemented
at home and at school at the same time is designed to help middle school students facing
Free Semester System to form an ideal career decision-making type. For this end, a
survey was executed on 180 students attending a middle school located in Seoul, also
analysis was executed on 166 valid questionnaires using SPSS v22.
Major findings of the study are as follows:: first, it was found in the sociodemographic
analysis that there was no difference in parenting attitudes between groups in terms of
religion and family income; second, only demographic attitude of parents had the greatest
impact on rational career decision-making type of middle school students. But permissive
attitude had no effect, while authoritarian one had effect on dependant career decision
making type; third, among all psycho-social characteristics, goal-oriented characteristics
had the greatest effect on the rational career decision-making type of middle school
students. These findings will contribute in developing an effective program that will help
middle school students facing Free Semester System from 2016.
