The purpose of this study is to examine the different types of the ego mechanisms of defense and their usage based on the MBTI types. therefore provide the counselors valuable information in understanding of the ego mechanisms of defense and, in the long run, contribute to the successful counseling of the clients. The research questions are as follows: First, what are the types of ego mechanisms of defense based on the 4 Preference Index of the MBTI and how different are those types? Second, based on the 16 personality types of the MBTI, what are the different types of ego mechanisms of defense one takes upon? and how different are those types? The summary of the main finding of the study are as follows - First, based on the 4 types of the Preference Index of MBTI, there were significant differences in the defense style and the defense mechanisms and how much the subjects utilized them. Second, based on the 16 personality types of the MBTI, there were significant differences in the defense style and the defense mechanisms and how much the subjects utilized them. It is expected that the counselor will be able to better understand the client's defense mechanisms in regards to personality, better deal with the defense mechanisms of the clients, and in the long run, may expect to improve the results of counseling.
