This study aimed to investigate the associations between high school students’ basic needs, conflict resolution
methods, and school life adaptation. 221 high school students in Gyeonggi-do were recruited. The results were
as follows. First, as for basic needs, there was a significant difference in genders, indicating that female students
showed higher belonging need than males. Second, the survival need revealed a positive relationship with other
sub-factors of basic needs, whereas it showed a negative relationship with freedom need. School life adaptation
exhibited a positive relationships with all other factors except freedom need. As to conflict resolution methods,
active alleviation had a positive relationship with all other factors except freedom need. Third, regarding basic
needs associated with school life adaptation, the survival need was the highest and the belonging need was the
second highest. Also, active alleviation methods showed a positive association with school life adaptation.
