The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effect of emotional clarity on the association between
avoidant attachment and subjective well-being. The subjects were 287 college students, and they completed the
Experience of Close Relationship Scale-Revised, the Trait Meta-Mood Scale, the Satisfaction with Life Scale, and
the Positive Affect and Negative Affect Scale. The results were as follows. First, avoidant attachment was
negatively correlated with subjective well-being, and it had a significant influence on subjective well-being.
Second, avoidant attachment was negatively correlated with emotional clarity, and it had a significant influence
on emotional clarity. Also, emotional clarity was positively correlated with subjective well-being, and it had a
significant influence on subjective well-being. Second, emotional clarity was partially mediated the association
between avoidant attachment and subjective well-being. Finally, the implications and limitations of this study and
suggestions for future research were discussed.
