Along with the increase of single person households, the population of solitary elderly is upsurging, and
the solitary elderly may often be placed in a vulnerable state due to loneliness, disease and medical
problems, economic poverty, and lack of family support. In recent years, case management has been used as the most effective service to meet the chronic and complex needs of the solitary elderly.
However, with prolonged life span, the elderly population has increased rapidly, and the number of
solitary elderly who cannot carry out the most basic functions, such as grocery shopping and going to the
hospital, is increasing quickly. It has become difficult to have them only as passive recipients of services.
Therefore, to increase the active purchasing power of the elderly, an Internet-based purchasing system
designed for the elderly needs to be adopted to enhance their lives and raise their satisfaction with life.
This study will use case management for solitary elderly by utilizing virtual reality welfare spaces.
